Josh Green Claims First Series Win at Road Atlanta

Braselton, GA- Team Pelfrey’s duo composed of Josh Green and Ayrton Ori had a solid start to the 2019 Formula Race Promotions F1600 Championship season. The first three rounds took place in predominantly wet conditions on the 2.54 mile road course of the Michelin Raceway at Road Atlanta.

Despite a weather-related cancellation of Friday morning’s qualifying session, Green and Ori were slotted to begin race one in fourth and fifth positions based on practice times from the previous day. Green quickly took control of the race by leading the field to the green by the conclusion of the first lap. Teammate Ori skillfully maneuvered through the field with impressive restarts after two yellow flags. The conclusion of race one ended with Green on the top step of the podium in his career first open wheel competition. Ori finished third but was later disqualified for being 4 pounds underweight.

Saturday morning brought more wet condition, as both Green and Ori powered through the field. A racing incident caused Ori to finish a few laps down, but he was able to secure a seventh-place qualifying position for the Road Atlanta finale. Josh Green fiercely battled with former Team Pelfrey driver Jonathon Kotyk to finish a close second.

Race three was a challenge for both drivers as adverse conditions and traffic prevented them from progressing to the top of the field. Green and Ori finished fifth and sixth consecutively.

Team Pelfrey will travel to Watkins Glen International May 10-12 for the fourth, fifth, and sixth rounds of the Formula Race Promotions F1600 Championship. Follow along with all the action at @TeamPelfrey on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook, or visit

Josh Green, No. 80: “I don’t think there was anything more I could have asked for in my first race. To win in my first race ever and fight for the win in every race exceeded my expectations. The adverse conditions show how prepared and ready Team Pelfrey is! Getting me and my teammate out on the right tires with the right setup in every condition was extremely impressive, and I’m very excited about the upcoming year, especially with Team Pelfrey and Dufour Aerospace for backing me up!”

Ayrton Ori, No. 27: “I love Road Atlanta and wanted to start the season strong, but unfortunately our 3rd place finish in race 1 was lost for technical reasons and I had to start from the rear in race 2. The conditions were about as bad as you can imagine with cold, wet races on slicks but we worked together and got some points out of race 3. We’re excited for the next round and expect to restart the season at Watkins Glen.”
