Homestead, Florida- Continuing their energetic start of the 2020 race season, Team Pelfrey 1600 will be competing at the SCCA Hoosier Tire Super Tour in Sebring, Florida January 10th-12th. Dylan Christie and Max Esterson will challenge for their first podium of the decade! The Team has worked diligently to find responsible, mature drivers for the upcoming season.
Coaching for the Team will be Tyler O’Connor. O’Connor brings not only firsthand experience in an F1600 car, but also is able to communicate and connect with young drivers. “I’m looking forward to kicking off the 2020 season at Sebring. Both Dylan and Max have put in a lot of work preparing for the upcoming year. I can’t wait to see that hard work pay off and start the year on the right foot; with a strong weekend at one of the most demanding tracks in North America,” O’Connor stated.
Christie, who has recently committed to the Team for 2020 said “I came off of my first race at Sebring having learned a lot about how to apply and expand my knowledge of racing. My expectations are to come off the upcoming Sebring weekend having improved with each session, more prepared for the FRP pro series than I was beforehand. I’m also very grateful for my parents and Team Pelfrey for granting me the opportunity to attend this race competitively to improve my racing abilities and prepare me for the upcoming season“
Making his maiden formula car debut, Max Esterson said “I’m super excited to be competing in my first ever race in cars. Since my test day at Roebling Road, Geoff and the team have been really helpful in getting me ready before showing up to the track. Sebring is a place where I’ve run close to a hundred hours on iRacing, so I’m curious to see how the experience transfers over. Just looking for a solid first race weekend with no big mistakes, and we’ll build from there!”
“It’s going to be one of the busiest seasons we’ve ever had,” said Team Principal, Geoff Bushor. “Our commitment is to the drivers, making sure that they are ready for the next level, whatever that may be. It’s about so much more than just driving the car. It’s about commitment, learning, understanding, and pushing yourself to be the best”
In 2016 Dylan Christie started his competitive karting career, and by the conclusion of the 2017 season he had finished 2nd in the F Series State Championship with Tag Jr. After joining Mike Doty Racing the following year, Dylan finished an impressive 4th place at the SKUSA Supernats Ka100 Jr final. That same year Christie also attended and won the Bertil Roos Grad Camp Race. In 2019 Dylan continued racing with Mike Doty Racing, earning numerous national podiums.
Max Esterson started his racing career online on the iRacing platform around age 11 and moved up the ranks and eventually made his way into the Top 50 list of iRacers around the world and into the Top 5 in the US. Along with competing on iRacing, he also offers a coaching service on the simulator, which has been helpful in giving him some base knowledge of data and how to use it to improve driving technique as well as car setup.
2019 was Max’s first full season in karting, which consisted of him doing 10 races with McAleer Racing in upstate New York at Oakland Valley Race Park in the X30 Senior class. He learned a lot throughout the year and managed to get close to the pace of the leaders in some very strong fields by the end of the season, and scored one podium finish in the rain. Along with the karting, Max got his first taste of cars at the Bertil Roos Racing School at Palm Beach Int’l Raceway earlier this year. He was born and raised in New York City and is currently a junior in high school. When Max isn’t on the track or doing schoolwork, he enjoys watching hockey as well as any racing that’s on TV; from MotoGP to IMSA.
